An Introduction to the Business Bromance

On the 1st of December 2016, I employed my best friend and flatmate. My company was beginning to grow, I was becoming overwhelmed and struggling to decide how to prioritise my work. I needed a right-hand man. One of my oldest and best friends, Jack Fisher, was looking to start a new chapter and it was a no brainer for me.

My name is Jack Francis. Due to the nature of me and Jack Fisher both having the same name and initials, I’ll refer to myself as Francis for the remainder of this Blog. I’m 22, enjoy video games, chilling with my friends and have somehow wound up running a business. To say I sometimes feel out my depth would be an understatement, but that’s something I have learned is not only perfectly acceptable, it’s good. It pushes me to change and learn and it has made me do things I wouldn’t ever have dreamt of doing. If I am honest with myself, I do not ever plan on having a “regular job”. I am what I wanted to be when I grew up as a kid and I have never been happier. Not that running a business doesn’t have its shortcomings, but so far it has been pretty sweet. Between me and Fisher, I would probably be described as the outgoing and loud one. A big, energetic dog bounding about with no real direction in mind. Great for some aspects of business but not so great for others. Which is where Fisher comes in;

Hello there, my name is Jack Fisher. Your life is about to get so much better now that I’m in it. Well, probably not. But hopefully you will get some enjoyment out of reading these blogs as I take the plunge into the business world alongside Francis. Anyone who knows me will tell you I’m a fun loving, vibrant individual. Or they might tell you I’m a cynical, stubborn moron. The truth is it depends what mood you catch me in. As Francis has rightly said, our personalities could not be more different. We may both be 22-year-old guys with much the same hobbies but that is where the similarities end. The proof is in our Myers Briggs results, but we’ll take that with a pinch of salt. After all, self-report measures are not the most accurate method of testing. Whilst Francis is the outgoing, excitable half of the bromance, I am the reserved, calculated side. To put it another way; I am the sensible side that Francis wishes he had. Although this may sound like an odd basis for friendship, it’s probably the most important factor that’s prevented us from driving each other up the wall over the past 7 years of our friendship. Especially when you consider we live together, socialise together, work together, and gym together. And it’s this contrast in personalities that makes us a perfect fit for going into business together.

At this point you’re probably wondering what our current business project is. In brief, it is a social media app called BounceIt. Stay tuned for more on that in the future. Let’s wrap things up here for now, if you are interested in the ramblings of two young friends as they try and find their feet in the business world, then keep your eyes peeled for future instalments of the blog.
